Sam's Focus is on Ability not Impairment
Sam was seven years old, living in South Korea, when he was diagnosed with a brain tumour and underwent 12 hours in surgery. Recently, as a young adult survivor, he earned the role of a facilitator, leading workshops at POGO for other survivors on relatable topics like self-disclosure. Josh is a Mentor to Other Survivors
"One of the major changes I’ve noticed is increased self-confidence; that’s been very rewarding to see as a mentor." Josh works with Sam and other facilitators in POGO's Survivor to Survivor Network to present helpful information, lead discussions and share personal experiences through workshops. Life After Childhood Cancer: A Conference for Survivors On the weekend of September 20 – 22, 2019, Camp Ooch and POGO will present the Life After Childhood Cancer Survivor Conference, a gathering for survivors of childhood cancer aged 19 and over. We expect more than 70 adult survivors of childhood cancer to join us at Camp Ooch in beautiful Muskoka for a weekend of connecting with other survivors, learning about managing their health and living well after childhood cancer. How the Germ of an Idea Spread in a Community The idea for the Kitchener Kids with Cancer Run/Walk came to Dr. Jodi Rosner while she was running in her first half marathon in 2013. "A race to raise money for children with cancer came to me that day, growing with each kilometre, and by the time I crossed the finish line, I had the beginning of a plan," she says.
