When are Rebounders meetings?
What happens at a Rebounders meeting?
How did Rebounders begin? Founder: Andrew Sprawson (1963-2012) Andrew was a brain tumour survivor diagnosed at the age of 10. He was treated with surgery and radiation and experienced many of the late effects we see in survivors. He began to feel isolated and reached out to other survivors and Rebounders was born. Andrew married in 1997 and his wife, Jill, serves as the Executive Director of Rebounders. What do members say? “I went to my first meeting today. I soaked it all in and was able to share stories right away after feeling so comfortable. I made new friends today and I am so filled with esteem that I never felt before.” “Having another survivor to talk to about your cancer experience and day-to-day struggles is like nothing I have ever experienced before. It is so rewarding.” “When you put a group of survivors together, there seems to be no end to the conversation, instant comfort and laughter.” “It is great that all the Rebounders can relate to each and every person. Rebounders created a space where we don’t feel judged or lower than the other. We are on the same level because we all went through the same thing—one way or another—and we automatically understand each other’s pain. There is always a sense of joy at every Rebounders meeting that you can’t get anywhere else.” How to Contact Rebounders Call Jill Sprawson at 905-616-1976 or email jill@rebounders.ca Membership is free and members can request to join the goup's Facebook page. |
