On September 18th, 2024, SickKids launched the Video Toolkit for Education on Childhood Cancer Care at Home, introducing seven newly developed patient and caregiver videos.
The videos are 2 - 3 minutes in length, each covering a unique topic:
- Fever at home
- Nausea and vomitin
- Constipation
- Hair loss
- Infection prevention
- Mouth care
- Giving medicines at home
They have been translated into seven languages: English, French, Arabic, Spanish, Tamil, Mandarin with Chinese (simplified) subtitles and Cantonese with Chinese (traditional) subtitles.
The Oncology Family Education Council (OFEC) at SickKids led the creation of the videos, from initial script development and expert consensus building of content, to supporting filming, editing, and translation as required. The project team recognized the value of multiple options for families to access educational material related to their child’s new cancer diagnosis, acknowledging the overwhelming amount of information provided to families at the time of a cancer diagnosis.

The videos are available to everyone and can be accessed on the AboutKidsHealth website.
Please share the videos with your patients and their families and reach out to Allison Starr at SickKids with any specific questions.
