It's Time To Apply
for Scholarships!

Applying for scholarships can seem like an overwhelming added item on your to-do list, but it is well worth your effort! Completing the applications over a number of weeks can lead to big benefits over the long term. If you are awarded a scholarship, not only will you have extra funding to support your education, but you will also have another achievement to list on your résumé.

Each scholarship application process is different, with varied deadlines, but here are a few things to make sure you include in your application essay/letter:

  • How this money will be helpful (e.g., you will be able to focus on your studies versus working a part-time job)
  • Why you have chosen to study what you have applied for – and do include a description if your experience with childhood cancer affected this decision
  • How appreciative you are to be considered and how proud you will be to be a recipient if you are successful

If you have any questions about scholarship applications, contact your SAVTI counsellor!

This Edition's Scholarship in the Spotlight – Emmy Duff Scholarship Foundation

The Emmy Duff Scholarship Foundation honours a young woman who lived her life with courage, compassion, and, above all, hope. The scholarship is open to Canadian students currently residing in Canada who have had treatment (or are currently being treated) for cancer. Successful candidates will have demonstrated an ongoing volunteer commitment to causes that are important to them. The scholarship supports post-secondary academic endeavours and recognizes the personal triumphs of exemplary students who have been diagnosed with cancer.
