September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month and we want to celebrate with you!

September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month and across Ontario and Canada, individuals and communities are shining a spotlight on the achievements gained and the challenges that remain. Every year POGO joins forces with its partners to recognize what it means to champion childhood cancer care.

This year, POGO’s Survivor to Survivor Network Team has joined POGO's efforts and created LINKED for Life to show patients and survivors that they are not alone.

LINKED for Life is primarily a virtual campaign to raise funds for POGO and awareness of childhood cancer and survivor care.

The goal is to create a visual representation of the connection between the childhood cancer community and its supporters by creating paper chains which grow each time someone adds one or more links. While a donation of $5.00 per link is an option and the basis of the fundraising portion of the campaign, a donation is not required to show your support and add a link. Your name will be written on the paper link before it is added to one of the chains displayed at six Ontario hospitals during Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.

Our goal is 2,000 links and $10,000. To date, we have raised over $4,180.00 for POGO and collected almost 500 paper links of support!

About the Author

Hi, my name is Kathy Nguyen. I am a first-year student (Fall 2020) at the University of Ottawa, studying Co-operative Communication Program (English language stream). At the age of 3, I was diagnosed with Astrocytoma. I stayed at the Children’s Hospital in Eastern Ontario, where I was getting my treatment. I don’t remember much about my treatment. However, with the help of the staff, my experience was terrific, I was able to get the support and resources that I needed. My hobbies are cooking, watching movies and taking pretty notes for my classes. My goals are to travel or study abroad in a different country and getting out of my comfort zone more.
